London based illustrator Matt Ponting specialises in colourful architectural drawings that connect with local communities.

Overview

To date he’s been commissioned to create public art that engages residents with different geographic areas including ‘Doodling The Docks’ an exhibition about the Royal Docks area in east London as part of the ‘Join The Docks’ summer festival.

He has a sculpture on display in Windsor in the ‘Lions of Windsor’ art trail and has a forthcoming installation in Thamesmead, Greenwich; a collaboration with a local business that will be displayed on hoardings.

Matt is a member of Bow Arts and has an art studio in Canada Water.

He has a range of licensed illustrations and products on sale in a number of London tourist attractions including Tower Bridge, the National Gallery and Hamley’s including jigsaws, tea towels, tote bags, chocolate and giftwrap.

Community art and working with local people has always been a part of Matt’s art practise and he has delivered community art workshops in Hackney, Tower Hamlets and Newham for children and adults.

He takes an interactive approach to his exhibitions. For ‘Doodling The Docks’ (2019) which comprised over 40 illustrations of Newham landmarks he created an accompanying walking tour map which included local facts. During the course of the six week exhibition he also held a series of free art workshops for local residents.

Matt has studied short courses at Putney School of Art, Kensington & Chelsea College, Royal Drawing School and House of Illustration.
